Community Guidelines

With the launch of the StoryCorps app and the companion StoryCorps.me website, we intend to establish a community in which everyone is welcome and all people feel comfortable sharing and interacting with each other.

In order to help facilitate a positive environment, here are a few important reminders:

All voices heard in interviews–whether archived on the StoryCorps.me website or not–must belong to individuals who have agreed to be recorded for a StoryCorps conversation.

Both the interviews and the accompanying participant photographs must be done in a responsible and thoughtful manner.

We will not allow the StoryCorps app or the StoryCorps.me website to be used for attacks on others based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or medical condition.

We will not tolerate the use of the StoryCorps app and the StoryCorps.me website to bully or harass anyone.

StoryCorps will remove interviews, photographs, or other user-generated materials that don’t follow the StoryCorps Terms of Use or Community Guidelines (ex: nudity, bullying, abuse, graphic violence, hate speech). If you see, hear, or read something that violates our Community Guidelines or Terms of Use, please flag the content as objectionable immediately. StoryCorps also takes any report of this nature seriously, and will review the content in question within 24 hours of when the content is first flagged. If the flagged material violates our Terms of Use or Community Guidelines, the content will be permanently deleted from StoryCorps.me.

For StoryCorps, thoughtfulness and respect are the cornerstones of the community we are building. The higher the degree of respect you show to others, the more rewarding your experience will be.

Questions or comments? We’d love to hear from you.
